Finance Bench specialises in providing Interim Executive Services, including CFO Advisory, Interim CFO and Business Transformation support. Established in 2025 by senior finance executive David McHale, our mission is to support organizations by delivering tailored Interim Executive Services that address the unique challenges and circumstances they face at any given time. We offer short-term, high-quality Executive Support from the 'bench' to supplement existing resources, identify and resolve issues, deliver transformation projects, or execute transactions. Additionally, we can backfill key roles, such as an Interim CFO, for a period while a permanent replacement is identified, recruited, and onboarded.

David is an accomplished finance executive with extensive skills and experience in leading large, complex organizations through growth and change. He has held senior financial leadership positions for over 20 years, with a strong track record in driving business performance, developing and executing finance transformation strategies, and delivering transformational change programs.
David’s most recent permanent role was General Manager Finance with Ventia Services Group, an ASX 200 listed business providing essential infrastructure services to clients across ANZ. In this role, David managed the Group Finance function, ensuring a robust internal control environment while overseeing Financial Reporting, Tax, FP&A, and Accounting functions. He played a pivotal role in establishing the Group Financial Control function when he joined Ventia in 2015 and was a key member of the finance due diligence teams that facilitated several successful acquisitions, culminating in the IPO for Ventia in 2021.
Before this, David served as Group Financial Controller for News Corp Australia. During his tenure with News, he was the architect of the Financial Transformation Strategy, planning and delivering the business case to implement finance shared services across the group. This initiative resulted in a 40% reduction in finance headcount, generating substantial savings, enhancing internal control, and improving service quality to the business.
David is a Chartered Accountant and a Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He also holds a Master of Business Administration. Passionate about developing others, David serves as an ANZ Career Mentor for early and mid-career Chartered Accountants.
With a strong focus on enhancing commercial outcomes and improving operational performance through the planning, development, and execution of transformation initiatives, David is eager to explore future opportunities where he can add significant value.

Position – Interim Managing Director, Australia
Situation - Establish and maintain stability and decision-making in the organization whilst a permanent replacement was recruited. The assignment included collaborating closely with the local and global management team to plan and coordinate the successful implementation of the global strategy for the business, while assisting with the process of recruiting and onboarding the new Managing Director.

Position – Interim Chief Financial Officer
Situation - Served as an Interim CFO for a Sydney-based electronics manufacturer listed on the London Stock Exchange AIM market. Provided CFO Advisory services that supported a successful capital raise, whilst at the same time managed the preparation and completion of the audited financial statements. Delivered key aspects of Finance Transformation by restructuring the Finance team and streamlining financial reporting for the business. Provided smooth handover to new permanent CFO.

Ownership – Not for Profit
Position – Interim Finance Executive
Situation - Provided consulting services to the CEO to perform a review of certain key finance processes and systems, team structure and capability and recommend areas for improvement. Perform a review of financial reporting to the Board and recommend a new reporting format to improve clarity and eliminate ambiguity. Support the recruitment of a new CFO and work together to implement identified improvements across process, people and technology.
Length of assignment – 5 months

Finance Bench is dedicated to creating a positive social impact for our clients and the community. We give back through providing free CFO Advisory services to certain 'Not for profit' organisations, volunteering, and offering mentoring services.

Volunteer hours recorded in FY25 for the provision of interim services to Not for profit organisations total 130 hours, reflecting our commitment to supporting clients on a pro-bono basis.
David is a member of the Management Committee and serves as Treasurer for Northside Enterprise. Northside is a certified NDIS service provider dedicated to empowering people with disabilities.
David is a member of the Financial Risk & Audit Committee for Touch Football Australia. TFA are the governing body of the sport of NRL Touch Football in Australia.
