Finance Bench specialise in the provision of Interim Executive Services. The business was established in 2025 by David McHale, a senior finance executive. Our aim is to support organisations by providing tailored Interim Executive Services designed to identify and respond to the unique challenges and circumstances facing the business at a point in time. We can support your business by providing short term, high quality Executive Support from the 'bench' to supplement existing resources, identify and resolve issues, deliver transformation projects or execute transactions. We can also backfill key roles for a period of time while a permanent replacement is identified, recruited and on-boarded.

David is an accomplished finance executive with a broad range of skills and experience in leading large, complex organisations through growth and change. He has held senior financial leadership roles for the last 20+ years and has a strong track record of driving business performance, developing and executing business strategy and delivering transformational change programs.
David’s most recent permanent role was General Manager Finance with Ventia Services Group, an ASX 200 listed business providing essential infrastructure services to clients across ANZ. In his role, David was responsible for the Group Finance function, maintaining a strong internal control environment and managing a range of Financial Reporting, Tax, FP&A and Accounting functions. David was instrumental in establishing the Group Financial Control function when he joined Ventia in 2015 and was a key member of the finance due diligence teams which led a number of successful acquisitions and delivered the IPO for Ventia in 2021.
Prior to this, David was Group Financial Controller for News Corp Australia. During his time with News, David was the architect for developing the Financial Transformation Strategy and planned and delivered the business case to implement finance shared services across the group resulting in a reduction in finance headcount of 40%, delivering substantial savings, improving internal control, and increasing service quality to the business.
David is a Chartered Accountant and a Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He also holds a Master of Business Administration. David is passionate about developing others and is an ANZ Career Mentor for early and mid-career Chartered Accountants.
With a strong focus on enhancing commercial outcomes and improving operational performance, through planning, developing, and executing transformation initiatives and projects, David is keen to identify new opportunities where he can add value.
Interim General Manager for an engineering services business operating across Australia. The assignment includes working closely with the local and global management team to plan, co-ordinate and monitor the succesful implementation of the global strategy for the Australian business.
Interim CFO for a Sydney-based electronics manufacturer which is listed on the London Stock Exchange AIM market. Supported a successful capital raise, managed the preparation and completion of the audited financial statements and streamlined financial reporting for the business.
